The season of renewal and new life is celebrated as the official new year in many cultures, such as Indian, Thai, and Persian. Throughout my many years spent traveling, I have been pelted with water balloons during Songkran on the streets of Bangkok, have been caught in a flurry of colors at Holi celebrations in Mumbai, and have feasted for Nowruz in Kurdistan. Experiencing the multi-cultural reverence of the season has made the transition from winter into spring quickly one of my favorite times of the year — and has brought some of my most memorable adventures.
